When it comes to public records, United States federal and state regulations dictate which records are available to the public and the processes used to obtain them. At the federal level, the Freedom of Information Act and the Privacy Act regulate public federal agency information and spell out steps to ensure that personal information is adequately protected for privacy purposes. The public has the right to request federal agency records or informatin that is not specifically exempted (such as classified information and trade secrets) by the Freedom of Information Act. The Privacy Act covers information specific to individuals. For example, under the Privacy Act, individuals have the right to see records about themselves (unless exempted); the right to ammend non-exempt records that are inaccurate, incomplete, untimely, or irrelevant; and the right to sue the government for privacy violations of this particular statute. Both Acts are loaded with exemptions. The Government Services Administration has issued a publication titled Your Right to Federal Records that explains these two Acts in greater detail.

          ]]>

In addition, many public records are managed by states. For example, birth records are managed by the states in which individuals were born. So, if you were born in California and need a copy of your birth certificate, you would need to contact the state of California’s Department of Public Health Services Office of Vital Records in order to obtain these public records. United States public records such as birth, death, marriage, divorce, adoption, and paternity records are all managed at the state level. Each state has its own office, department, or bureau dedicated to managing public records. These typically use the term “vital statistics” in their names, but not always. In general, if you search a state’s website for public health, public records, or vital statistics, you’ll find the correct agency fairly easily.

To add to the confusion, the U.S. court system consists of local, state, and federal courthouses. Court records are public records, however, there’s not necessarily a central clearinghouse for obtaining them. You must know through which court system the case was tried. For example, if you’re searching for criminal records, the records would most likely be state records unless federal laws were broken in which case those would be federal court public records. United States crimes tried in the federal court system include mail fraud, drug trafficking, and bank robberies involving banks insured by a federal agency. Most other crimes are tried in local or state courts.

If you’re confused with just these few examples, you’re not alone. Trying to figure out who’s in charge of the records you need is the most difficult part about searching for public records. United States residents have other options though. The Internet has brought many public records online where access is just a few mouseclicks away – even if you’re unsure of which entity holds the records. Membership sites, geneaology sites, federal and state agency sites are but a few of the many options for finding public records in the United States.

As 21st century has brought wonders to the life in-terms of technology boom in all parts of the globe, it also brings the war of crime, terror and economic halt. When the world has seen the worst time of instability and the proposition to survive is very scarce. The major issues that we need to deal with are safety, security, peace, prosperity, employment, business growth, health and most importantly the terrorism.

Those people who are causing such harm to our society are living among us but we cannot be able to pin point them as we don’t follow the resources we have but we really are able to nab them out from their hideouts. And the only way I see is the way of knowing each and every thing about the person around you; either he/she is your employee, a baby sitter or even a tenant. It’s the matter of our life, it’s the matter of our security and it’s the matter of our successful career/business.

Online free public records search is playing an important role in identifying such criminals, burglars, thieves, forgers, terrorists, sex offenders etc. At first I want to let you know about what really are these public records and how different types of public records search can be helpful in identifying a person’s background.

The first step toward success in finding information about people begins with understanding what constitutes public record, public information and private information.

Generally, personal or confidential information is private. A person’s Social Security number, date of birth, and medical, financial or insurance information is private. Likewise, confidential company information, such as unpatented formulas, designs or processes, or undisclosed business practices, is private. But researchers should know that private information sometimes becomes public. This means that you might be able to find it out legally and ethically.

Public records are government records. Generally, real estate records, court records, including bankruptcies, liens and judgments, professional licenses, intellectual property filings and business records, employment records, criminal records, education records, are all examples of public records.

If it were the past, whether it is to locate someone or doing a background check, one has to hire the services of a professional investigator which can be costly!

The idea of checking public records sometimes sounds daunting to people who aren’t in the legal world. But in actual, checking public records can be a snap if you know how and where to look for them. It is as easy as turning on a computer, but requires you to get a little creative when hunting down information.

          ]]>

Searching for public records can differ depending on what state and city you reside in. Mostly government public records are devised on country/state/county basis.

Pre employment background checks common these days, a study revealed that almost 90% employers are now conducting background checks for employment, which includes education checks, past employment checks, criminal records check etc. Public records search is making that process easier, how? Have a look below.

Identity Verification: Address and identity checks can be done using public records by just entering the candidates name in the search box. It will let you know about the current and past addresses and social security number.
Past Employment records check: Character and employment references check, can be done by the mentioned names and the identities through their email addresses, postal addresses and their work addresses.
Credit histories can be searched through criminal database search as if the prospective employee has any credit lien records then there is a sure chance that it will pop up at the public records search.
Criminal history records; reports can be search through government databases which contains court records, civil litigation records and these records are also available on state/county wise basis.
Education verification is possible by confirming their degrees through diploma mill directories and institution searches.

As employers are peeking on their employees by their background check radars, the employee also have a right to investigate about the company’s profile before starting their career.

For company names, search assumed names (fictitious business names or DBAs) as well as corporate names.
Also try searching partial names. This approach will help you find as many relevant filings as possible.
Company’s reputation, find assets, identify ownership, affiliations or relationships, discover activity in a certain field or geographic region, determine consumer reaction to products or services, uncover evidence of legal problems, or conduct research on just about anything that pertains to doing business.
Business fraud records can also be searched.

It is important to check your criminal public records free online. Why? Even though you may know that you have never been convicted of a crime, a police department may have made a clerical error and entered you into a database as a criminal.

Everyone should be aware of their own public records to ensure that the information contained in them reflects the truth. Up until recently it was very difficult for someone to obtain their criminal records, and if they were able to obtain them, there would almost always be a fee involved. All this has changed in the last few years as the government becomes more comfortable with allowing access to public information over the internet. Now you can check your criminal public records free online.

A comprehensive Nationwide Criminal Record Database Search will include both a multi-state sex offender registry search and the department of Human Services Exclusions List.
County Criminal Record Searches should be added based on residence history to locate other types of criminal records.
While Nationwide Criminal Record Searches offer a broad view of criminal records across the nation and often store 500 million plus archived criminal records,
The information is gathered from those counties which are accessible digitally, plus several state repositories, department of corrections records, government agencies and other public record sources.

You should check your public records at least once per year to make sure that all of the information it contains is accurate.
Public records searches are extremely helpful in vetting your potential employees.
Sometimes even minor offenses, such as speeding tickets are noted in criminal records, so it’s important to keep in mind that appearing in the public records does not guarantee that someone is a criminal. But you can correct the discrepancies to prevent yourself from a loss.
You must check with Government’s Official Search engine that can provide you with large databases of information. This can open huge portals to the United States government, state governments, and local government’s public records.

Much like genealogy , searching out your using a variety of tools and databases , constructing the history of your neighbourhood has become a fashionable hobby recently, with companies and databases springing up to offer their services to the confused neophyte to trawling public records. However, to get anywhere in researching the and piecing any real information together, you are at some point going to have to consult the vast array of public records available for you to use. Governments have been storing information not just on their citizens, but on the dwellings they reside in, the towns, villages and cities they congregate in and the physical areas they sit on for hundreds of years and the vast majority of that is available to you to look at.

          ]]>

Where to go

The first port of call for any researcher into local history would most likely be their local library. Researching is much the same as researching the history of a person – your local library has access and probably has the physical records themselves stashes away somewhere in the recesses and the staff there are actually paid to help you – so use them to your full advantage, that’s what they’re there for! Depending on how far you want to look back, you will want to ask for different resources. If you just want to look back to the twentieth century , then look for . If you want to go back to the 1700s-1800s, then maps, governmental records and church records may be the best bet. Any further back and you may have to contact specific institutions to see if you can take a look at their research .

Universities have people doing their doctoral theses on subjects like local history, so perhaps volunteering some of your time to help out might result in some access to records you can’t find anywhere else, so if your local library can’t find what you need, contacting may be a useful port of call if you need something very specific or esoteric in nature.

In conclusion though, local history is much the same as family history with regards to using public records to find information for research purposes. You just have to know where to look, and with the advent of computerised records, that process is easier than ever.

I’m reading a book talking about the CIA and its covert interventions since the overthrow of Iran’s democratically elected prime minister, Mossagdeh, in 1953. The author says this intervention and others are the only ones in the public record. So, does the public record mean books, magazines, and other media that the public can have access to? If this is the public record, why do some people always defend arguments and ideas by saying “it’s in the public record” ? I could write some bogus book and have it published and just because it’s available doesn’t really lend credible support to an argument. Right?

Best answer:

Answer by ~dancer~girlie~4~ever~
I am pretty sure it means that it is records that are true…that are available to anyone in the public…check with your local librarian or someone who is book smart

Please advise me on any web-sites that are available for this process. Thank You.

I’m reposting a question, to better explain it. I went bankrupt in 1/2005, about two and a half years ago. Since then I’ve actually obtained 5 credit cards, somehow. An Amex Gold Charge, Capital One platinum, Discover, Washington Mutual Platinum, and a platinum card from Household Bank. These aren’t bad cards, but it’s amazing I got approved of anything. Yet, store cards like Bloomingdales or Macys turn me down. Yet these cards didnt.

I don’t get it. I obtained credit report and my score greatly increased since I’ve been using my new credit and paying it all off. It’s weird. Right now my three different numbers are about 650 680 and somehow, 760. Have no idea WHY that one is so high. Weird.

Anyways, I’m turned down alot becuase of too many public records. Is this referring to the bankrupcy? I have no other bills due or taxes, NOTHING. I’m clean. And my current credit usage is great, actually perfect.

Only problem is Bankrpucy chapter 7. When will this lessen its impact?
Does its severity lessen year by year by year, or will things pretty much generally be the same until if falls off 8 years from now and then magically, my score will increase?

When should I be likely to get approved of better credit cards, car loans, mortgages, and other things? In the next few years, AFTER the bankrupcy falls off record, or never? LOL.

This is driving me nuts, and I’m just not sure how long I have to feel (Scr*wed).

Can ONE bankrupcy be referred to as “too many public records,” meaning…they’re referring to all the creditors that were unpaid?

Is that what it means?

Thanks.

Best answer:

Answer by Miss Alexis
Yeah, basically that’s part of it. Also, all of your credit inquiries (applying for cards) in the last year will count as public records, and make lenders like store card companies less apt to give you a card. 10 years for a bankruptcy to drop off, and it will still haunt you even after that, whether they like to tell you that or not. Bankruptcy is one of the worst things you can do to your credit, ever.

www.bestnetdetective.com Access to Free Public Records — Court Records Some individuals are too busy with their work and so they can’t afford to consume a lot of their time in accessing free public records. Most of them don’t have luck in getting free public records for free, no matter how hard they try. Well, don’t lose hope yet because you might just be searching in the wrong places. There is lots of information resources online that can help in obtaining free public records like the court documents and you need to know about them. Once you find out how to obtain free public records, you will have less difficulty in getting the court records you need. The law mandates the government to provide easy accessibility of public records to the general public. The citizens of the US are privileged to access various public records but this doesn’t mean that the people can already abuse such privilege. If you want to get a certain public record, you have to make a request to the concerned government agency and the agency will decide on your request. Invalid requests can be turned down especially those that involve national security issues and the safety of some individuals in sensitive court cases. Public records are usually obtained after paying a certain fee and if you can’t afford to pay for the public records, you can obtain free public records. Free public records can be requested from other online providers. This is a much faster and simpler way of accessing public records …

Federal Judicial Center. Court Records: Public Access v. Privacy. December 8, 2000. This program features a spirited discussion with three bankruptcy judges about the problems raised by electronic access to court records. The courts’ use of imaging and electronic case filing may allow anyone with a computer and a modem to access court records. Presenting different opinions on this issue are Chief Judges J.
