What do you think about "trusting" the government with our Medical Records?

Pres Hussein and his Democrats put a little "Universal Health Care Plan" to ride "piggy-back" on their current "Bailout #2" bill. The bill calls for encrypting a persons medical records and for these records to be accessible to some type of "Health Czar" who will be working for the Health and Human Services department.
So would you trust our government with your health records or do you consider the measure an over-reaching invasion of your privacy?

if you looki closely at this subject, you will find that government has exempted themselves from the universal health care. i wonder why?

To the under 40s…records were how you got music. Think a big black CD with lines on it.
As long as it’s used for the sake of streamlining the process I don’t have a problem with it. My mother is 81 years old and she’s recently been through a couple of surgeries, the volume of paperwork is overwhelming particularly when you are referred to doctors by other doctors. I asked the question over and over "why can’t they just forward this information from one doctor to the other?"
Having said that, I’m still skeptical of the government, period.

I am a totally disabled vet, I get my health care from the VA for free, in the mid 90′s the CLinton administration coputerized all the medical records and the VA went from being a terrible health care system to being a model in my opinion. I would not trade health care effiency with anyone, the neo-cons call it socialzed medicine, all I know is I can be wheeled into any VA hospital in the country and in a matter of minutes they can punch up my complete medical history and treat me, no matter my condition.
Having said that, there are privacy issues, any doctor in the VA system can get access to any health issue I have had in the last 25 years just by punching in my SS number, wheather I want him to or not, but to my mind it is a small trade off, especially considering my condition, so yes there are drawbacks, but to me the benifits far outweigh the bad things.

I think the idea of computerizing medical records is good. I think letting the government have any say about what treatment , when , and who gets it is wrong. We euthanize infants and now the elderly will be in jeopardy.

Seeing as how so many banks and insurance companies have compromised confidentiality both intentionally and through lax security, I think I’d have more faith in government. I think the government should take a bigger role in protecting our privacy from those who will compromise it for profit.

The government cannot protect our identity, bank accounts, credit card numbers from hackers now. They will not be able to keep our medical records secure either. I see trouble ahead anytime the Health and Human Services Dept. is entrusted to handle anything.

Medicare, Medicaid and all the insurance companies already have full access to our medical records. They already put caps on what they are willing to pay out per treatment course. This is not new. The ‘privacy’ you claim this bill will invade is just an illusion. There is none.
Having my husband almost die because someone read a hand-written note on his chart wrong, I fully understand how computerizing records can save a ton of money for the system and many lives.

To those that think that this is simply meant to streamline our medical care: Yes, it would be helpful if our medical records were centralized, but that is not what this will eventually lead to. These records will be used to determine what kind of care we receive. If we go to Universal Healthcare, which I believe is what our current President wants…."Someone" other than our health care professional will determine where, what, and when we can have a procedure based on our age and expected lifespan. Do we really want our government telling us that our 81 year old mother can’t have hip replacement surgery? You may think that this won’t happen, but wait and see.

I have worked in the medical field, for 20 years. Putting a patients medical records online where a hacker can have access to it, could be catastrophic. I know when coding and billing a patient, you have to be very careful. If you code a diagnose wrong, that person may never be able to get life insurance, medical insurance, etc. It is private information for a reason. If Obama thinks he has the guts to challenge HIPPA. He can be my guest. But I don’t see it happening, any time soon. It has stayed private, for good reasons.
