I really want to go into the Air Force, the only thing really holding me back from at least attempting to join is the $167 fee I would have to pay to get my hands on my mental health records. I need those before I can go to MEPS, but my family can’t afford it by a long shot.

Can the government somehow gain access to them so I don’t have to give up before I even try?

As a Recruiter I have dealt with this in the past. Some places charge for med records, usually only about $25 or so. If the treatment was a while back the doctors office will probably have them achieved in some medical records storage facility. Many doctors/hospitals use these storage facilities because they do want to use up the space in their own offices for years and years of records for many many patients. Usually you are paying the records facility to search for and make a copy of your records.

Some places will onlhy release info to the patients, eevn if they will release to the Recruiter they still want to be paid, they don’t work for free.
