Question by James: What is the ideal location to uncover genealogical archives?
I’m an American going to England to search my household history. I know that they came from Yorkshire, Warwickshire and Essex, so what I am asking yourself is if I must go to the capitals of these counties or if the National Archives in London would have every thing I’m seeking for. Any tips will be significantly appreciated.

You either go to Kew, the Nation Archives or you go to the records workplace for every single County, you will fnd links on this site http://familytimeline.webs.com/apps/links/ ( 1st 1 and Genuki will give you addresses/occasions of the Records offices, under the UK section) You will need a CAIN card or a day pass and genuki or the link to the individual records workplace website will tell you what you need to prove your ID and appear at the the records…

I would suggest you make sure you know where you are looking, who you are searching for as going into a records office for the 1st time and especially Kew you will finish up wandering around the floors not knowing what to appear at….do as considerably background knowledge online and write your self out a plan for your investigation, the Kew’s site has lots of assist sheets and you can search for what records you want and write down the numbers as it will then be easy to order these records once you get there. The other records offices are far less difficult but it depends on where your ancestors lived…you need to know as borders changed many times and records can be at other nearby offices.

Something post July 1837 – 1974 bmd Yorkshire, Warwickshire and Essex, I would devote a couple of days on-line with freebmd indexes and get your list of record cite numbers….you will not be in a position to view certificates, you have to obtain copies if you want these bu if you want to view parish baptisms, marriages and marriage banns and burials, these can be viewed using the quarter civil record dates…so a marriage 3 Q 1849, you would require to look in the July, Aug, Sept parish book/fiche and also the June of 1849 as sometimes it took a month just before the marriage was registered…so it saves you time.

The website I gave you is UK based so it has lots of links and you can ask assist/guidance, it also has lots of help sheets on the documents page ( and some records) which they are continually adding for every single county and they say if you are looking in a particular county ask as if they have records that are not prepared as yet to go online they will do their best to do you a appear up or get them ready…it also has a lot of other excellent links which could support you.

I keep in mind the first time I visited Kew I was entirely lost and wasted so considerably time as it is so big with so many records, indexes, room soon after room full of indexes and draw following draw of film and fiche…………
