The public should know what the government has been doing from the government record centers that are nowadays available online instead of people having to hunt them all over as was the case in the early days.
Government record centers carry information that is of use to the public as they can know how the government functions and how important decisions that impacted their lives had been taken. It is within their rights to know in a democracy and in the US information is made available to the public unless there are security reasons for the government not to disclose. People know how the elected representatives are functioning as well as get an idea of the government decision making process in the past when ever they were faced with a crisis.
Government record centers offer information for a fee as well as require the person searching for information to get registered. Record centers can be of various types as the information volume is extensive and sometimes not possible for a single online site to offer everything from the same place. Archives like the NARA or National Archives and Records Administration is a treasure for everything America stands for and the glorious past. Government Records contain information from the days of the pioneers to the settlers, then the later day immigrants who too became settlers.
Immigration and the ethnic composition varied over the ages and the archive documents that too. Important American landmark decisions and engagements with the world are documented from the past dating back to the last two decades of the 18th century. Documents from then on were archived but not in an organized manner. It was only in 1934 when the NARA was established by FDR that the preservation of documents, photos, video, films and data took on anew meaning.
But due to the massive content, much was rejected over the years as it was not considered of any importance to the public. Only some of it was considered useful for legal and history buffs that needed preserving. As a government record center, NARA managed to digitalize a fraction of the stuff as it was not possible to do the rest.
Other government record centers carry much information as it is much easier for the public to locate there instead of earlier times when such an exercise was a big hassle. People had to fill up several forms and answer questionnaires before being allowed to get their information. From Criminal Records, legal rulings, court cases to name data bases for searching long lost friends or relatives and death records—-all are available online in government record centers nowadays on the payment of a fee and registration.

With the new administration taking office in the US, hopes of a heath care revival is on the horizon with electronic medical records facilitating the efficient functioning of the system. President Obama has vowed to ensure more inter-connectivity not only among schools, colleges and libraries, but between health care providers too.
We all loved the concept of the paperless office we had been hearing so much about, but in the health care system in the US, there are lots to be done. Records of patients continue to be kept in dead-tree format that makes copying and transferring them from one office to another a tedious job laden with high costs. It is for this very reason that only a couple of years ago just 14-17% of doctors kept electronic medical records using software.

Costs as reported then were high at $20,000 for licenses, training and data entry although the certification problem was overcome. The new administration want s to revamp electronic medical care with government help as ordinary Americans lacked the services necessary and many refused to take out a policy because of the high costs involved. With the government electronic medical records in place, costs would certainly come down.
Health care in the US costs a lot of money and electronic medical records are sure to bring it down. Certification for Health Care Information Technology, funded by the government, reviews the various software packages for electronic medical records and ensures its compliance to the set parameters. Functionality, Interoperability and security as outlined in the massive PDF format are the chief criteria for the products to get through the certification process. It has to comply with the rules set out by the government for electronic medical records to be handled. But nothing is more valuable than savings on efficiency alone.

Rand Corporation, a research think tank had estimated a few years ago that the government electronic medical record system, when put in place, could save up to US$77billion in efficiency standards. Even though it amounted to less than 5% of the total health care spending, it was valuable by any standards.
Hopes are there that electronic medical records policy as taken up by the government will ensure coverage to all Americans by the year 2014.
It is expected Americans coast to coast will have their medical records in electronic form by then. After certified products, inter-connectivity of hospitals and doctors is the next step and those not compatible so far would have to move toward electronic medical record according to the government. It would amount to large scale savings in the health care system.

There is no easy way to access any nationwide government website for criminal records and court documents even in these days of technological progress. Still there are many gaps in specific state level legislation to implement the constitutional guarantee provided to every US citizen to access criminal records and court documents. Usually criminal records become vital treasure troves of information for employers when they hire people for critical jobs where trust is a main factor.
Small and big businessmen are known to check out their prospective business partners before embarking on a relationship. Earlier you had to spend time at the government agencies and the police departments, fill up many forms to get some information. It was tedious and involved a lot of useless paperwork.

Free check is allowed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons on their website as an inmate locator service. Public interest organizations like the Family Watch Dog keeps record of all sex offenders that are released from prison. Separate data bases for criminal records and court documents can be found from the police department in their records, from correctional facilities and Court Records. But for searching, the identity and name of the person has to be verified. Many states also require the person’s social security number and date of birth before a proper verification process can begin.
Employers a required by law to inform their employees that their records would be subjected to a criminal verification check and the applicant should have access to the results of verification. Free Criminal Records and court document search online is not only difficult to perform but very time consuming as well. From the vast pool of government criminal records and court documents, it is a big task looking for information on the person you want.
Government criminal records and court documents are not provided free by the government agencies or accredited government providers. They sometimes charge a hefty fee for allowing you to search their databases. Many online sites offer free service but to think of the mammoth task of gathering all the information and keeping them updated, one wonders whether proper information will be available as the record keeping involves high costs. Fee based services are always valuable and offer updated information.
Fees for criminal records and court documents are based on the extent of research you are looking for and also on the scale their data is recorded and on the quality of their database. Database searches are as organized by the state and it is better to try the state database if the person hails from that state. Others have nationwide databases to solve your problem. Quality public information is always available for a smart fee.
